Education of the nurse for coronary care includes training in external cardiac massage, proper ventilation techniques, monitoring techniques, a working knowledge of electrocardiographic arrhythmias, artifacts and precatastrophic situations. An intensive care unit nurse must keep in mind that the monitoring equipment only enhances her power of observation, and that no degree of electronic superiority can ever replace a nurse's interpretation of her observation or her vigilance and skill.

Connective Tissue Massage has been practiced as a therapeutic procedure for three decades. In Germany, its country of origin, as in most parts of Europe, it is an integral part of Physiotherapy and is taught at every training school. The medical practitioner has accepted C.T.M. as a manual form of neural therapy and prescribes it freely for the benefit of his patients. Physical therapy remains an important tool in rheumatic disease treatment even though great strides have been made with chemotherapy. Much physical therapy is misused, however, and physicians should ensure that the exercises ordered for a patient do not contribute to joint deformity. Underwater exercise, heat therapy, traction, massage and splinting as well as a warm and sympathetic staff are all good aids in rehabilitating the rheumatic patient, but careful supervision is needed for maximum benefit.
