Ayurveda is one of the oldest systems of medicine, practiced in Indian sub continent. We are working to calibrate classical parameters of good manufacturing practices of Ayurvedic bhasma on parameters and language of contemporary science. Bhasma in accordance of classical expectation are Swarna bhasma, Makshika bhasma, Abhrak bhasma, Tamra bhasma and Louha bhasma. X-ray diffraction, TEM and particle size analysis revealed that these bhasma are in nanometer dimension. These bhasma may be considered as nanomedicine and are free from toxicity in therapeutic doses.

The Ergh-al-Nassa pill (Hab) is a traditional combination suggested as one of the most effective preparations useful for treatment of sciatica. Although traditional preparations can be applied as new therapeutic drugs for investigations and clinical trials, they need to be reformulated to achieve pharmacopoeial standards for modern medicine. In this research, based on seven traditional Persian pharmacopeias for Ergh-al-NassaHab, nine different molded tablets were reformulated. Each formulation comprised the same amount of colchicum, ginger, aloe and yellow myrobalan fruit.

Propofol (2,6-diisopropylphenol) is inadequably soluble in water and is therefore formulated as a lipid emulsion. This may have disadvantages when propofol is used to provide total intravenous anaesthesia or especially during long-term sedation. There has been considerable interest in the development of new propofol formulations or propofol prodrugs. GPI 15715 or fospropofol (Aquavan injection; Guilford Pharmaceutical, Baltimore, MD) is the first water-soluble prodrug that has been thoroughly studied in human volunteers and patients.

OBJECTIVE: To understand the action mechanism of Tianwang Buxin decoction that is the whole prescription included all drugs from Tianwang Buxin honeyed pill and Tianwang Buxin without radix platycodi decoction on the nerves-calming and hyposomnia-curing. METHOD: The influence of Tianwang Buxin decoction and Tianwang Buxin without radix platycodi decoction on somnus utilizing the mice' s somnus in coordination with Pentobarbital sodium was observed.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Robots are present in surgery, to a much lesser extent in the field of anesthesia. The purpose of this review is to show the latest and most important findings in robotic anesthesia. Moreover, this review argues the importance and utility of robots in anesthesia. RECENT FINDINGS: Over the years, many closed-loop systems have been developed; they were able to control only one or two of the three components of anesthesia: hypnosis, analgesia, or muscle relaxation. McSleepy controls all three components of anesthesia, from induction to emergence of anesthesia.

There appears to be no chemical manufacture of antimalarial drugs in Brazil. Technology at the laboratory process level has been developed for chloroquine, mefloquine, pyrimethamine and cycloguanil, but not perfected nor scaled-up, largely for economic reasons and market uncertainty. Development of primaquine has been contracted but it will run into the same difficulty. Manufacturing capacity for sulfadoxine was registered in the SDI by Roche. A project to produce artemisinine and its derivatives is under way at UNICAMP-CPQBA but is hampered by low content in the plant.

BACKGROUND: Artemisinin-derivative formulations are now widely used to treat falciparum malaria. However, the dry powder suspensions developed for children are few and/or are of poor quality. In addition to the active compound, the presence of a suitable preservative in these medicines is essential. In this study, an evaluation of the preservative content and efficacy in some dry suspensions available on the Kenyan market was performed. METHOD: UV spectrophotometry was used to identify the preservatives in each sample while HPLC-UV was used for quantification.

The purpose of this research was to mask the intensely bitter taste of artemether (ARM) and to formulate a rapid-disintegrating tablet (RDT) of the taste-masked drug. Taste masking was done by solid dispersion with mono amino glycyrrhyzinate pentahydrate (GLY) by solvent evaporation method. To characterize and formulate taste masked rapid disintegrating tablets (RDTs) of ARM, the 1:1M solid dispersion was selected based on bitterness score.

The objective of this study is to show the pharmacokinetic (PK) profile of intravenous artesunate (AS), which was manufactured under good manufacturing practice (GMP) conditions, in adults with uncomplicated falciparum malaria in Kenya.
