AIM: To systematically review the literature on vascular injuries caused by acupuncture. METHOD: Systematic literature search in Medline and PubMed. RESULTS: Twentyone cases were identified and the majority developed symptoms in direct connection with the acupuncture treatment. Three patients died, two from pericardial tamponade and one from an aortoduodenal fistula. There were five more tamponades, seven pseudoaneurysms, two with ischaemia, two with venous thrombosis, one with compartment syndrome and one with bleeding. The two patients with ischaemia had remaining sequeleae.

Acupuncture in Medicine: Journal of the British Medical Acupuncture Society

BACKGROUND: Spontaneous intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH) is the most devastating subtype of stroke, but there is currently no evidence-based treatment strategy. Acupuncture is a well-known traditional Chinese therapy for stroke-induced disability, and GV20 is the commonly used acupuncture point. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of GV20-based acupuncture in animal models of acute ICH. METHODS: Studies of GV20-based acupuncture in animal models of acute ICH were identified from six databases up to July 2013.

INTRODUCTION: Theoretically, acupuncture in anticoagulated patients could increase bleeding risk. However, precise estimates of bleeding complication rates from acupuncture in anticoagulated patients have not been systematically examined. OBJECTIVE: To critically evaluate evidence for safety of acupuncture in anticoagulated patients. METHODS: We searched PubMed, EMBASE, the Physiotherapy Evidence Database, and Google Scholar. RESULTS: Of 39 potentially relevant citations, 11 met inclusion criteria: 2 randomized trials, 4 case series, and 5 case reports.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: The prevalence of colonic diverticulosis in Korea is increasing in conjunction with the adoption of western dietary pattern, extension of lifespan, and advances in diagnostic modalities. The clinical characteristics of colonic diverticulosis seem to be gradually becoming similar to those of Western societies. Therefore, factors associated with the clinical characteristics of colonic diverticulosis in Korea were investigated.
