Modern historical research of women and nursing has largely neglected the role of religious groups, particularly in the American frontier. OBJECTIVE: Mental health services in the UK, Australia and other Anglophone countries have moved towards supporting personal recovery as a primary orientation. To provide an empirically grounded foundation to identify and evaluate recovery-oriented interventions, we previously published a conceptual framework of personal recovery based on a systematic review and narrative synthesis of existing models. Our objective was to test the validity and relevance of this framework for people currently using mental health services.
BACKGROUND: Diabetes continuously disrupts a patient's well-being and quality of life. Successful self-care could potentially decrease overall costs and rates of mortality and morbidity. Patients' experiences could be used to elucidate what they believe about illness and its management. The overall aim of this study was to illuminate the meaning of self-care among diabetic patients in Southeast of Iran. METHODS: Sixteen diabetic patients with a mean age of 34 and 10 years' experience in self-care for their disease were interviewed.
The words 'nurse' and 'nursing' originate in the word 'nurture' which dates back to the 14th century. 'Nurturance' appeared for the first time in the 1976 Supplement to the Oxford English Dictionary and in a United States dictionary in 1983. Much has been written about power which seems to be of interest to the various professions including nursing. One theory, which asserts that the urge to dominate (i.e. the imbalance of power over love) is the source of most difficulty in human relationships, seems to have received little attention. The authors, therefore, decided to examine the nursing literature for evidence of power/love imbalances.
This article invites reconsideration of the American Psychological Association's policy permitting sexual involvement between therapists and their former patients under certain conditions. The article (a) restates 5 major concerns about sex after termination that have not been adequately addressed; (b) examines 9 major arguments set forth in support of allowing posttermination sexual relationships, all of which appear ill-founded, fallacious, or misleading; and (c) describes 6 obstacles that seem to hinder attempts to create sound legal and professional policies in this area.
In this article, vengeance and other manifestations of aggression and hostility are differentiated, then the developmental origins and later manifestations of the revenge motive through the life cycle are traced. Consideration is given to each phase of the life cycle, each of which may impart its distinctive stamp onto the patient's desires for revenge. Consistent with this developmental perspective, it is pointed out that desires for revenge may have important adaptive functions, helping the patient contain anxieties associated with developmental tasks that have not been mastered.
Factor analysis of FIRO-B data obtained from new software product teams had led to a reformulation of Schutz's ideas on team compatibility. The concept of Group-Warmth as a derivative of the FIRO-B Inclusion and Affection scales was developed and shown to be related to the commercial effectiveness of teams. In a like manner, the FIRO-B constructs of Control-Expressed and Control-Wanted were explored through concurrent factor analysis of 16 PF data. A new interpretation has been given to both FIRO-B Control scales, namely, Assertive-Impulsive.
