Progres En Urologie: Journal De l'Association Francaise D'urologie Et De La Societe Francaise D'urologie

Despite considerable progress, the treatment of erectile insufficiency is often difficult due to its usually multifactorial aetiology and to the fact that the 3 components of a satisfying sex life are: 1) Sufficient penile rigidity with no other associated sexual dysfunction, 2) an adapted mental state, 3) a loving relationship with the partner. All of these parameters must be taken into account to ensure a lasting success, hence the need for a global approach rather than an approach localized to the organ.

CONTEXT: Strain-directed therapy such as vacuum compression and manual manipulative therapies are clinically effective, but their cellular and molecular mechanisms are not well understood. OBJECTIVE: To determine the effects of modeled myofascial release (MFR) on fibroblast wound healing and to investigate the potential role of nitric oxide (NO) in mediating these responses. METHODS: Using an in vitro scratch wound strain model, the authors investigated human fibroblast wound healing characteristics in response to injurious repetitive motion strain (RMS) and MFR.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Skin laxity of the body is a growing cosmetic concern. Laxity can result from chronological or photoaging and changes in body dimensions during pregnancy or weight loss. The end result is loose, sagging skin, and localized fat deposits. Liposuction and abdominoplasty or brachioplasty are established approaches to these issues. Patient desire for alternatives to surgical correction has spawned the development of non-invasive body contouring devices.

OBJECTIVE: To discuss the case of a 79-year-old man who had a delayed posttraumatic vertebral collapse and an intravertebral vacuum cleft. The patient had been on long-term corticosteroid therapy. A discussion of Kummell's disease and the controversy surrounding the etiology of the condition is also presented. CLINICAL FEATURES: Six weeks before coming to the clinic, the patient remembered twisting, hearing a pop, and having severe low back pain. Two weeks after the incident, while hospitalized for bacterial cellulitis, he underwent lumbar spine radiography.

BACKGROUND: Cupping therapy is a popular technique in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Cupping is the application of a vacuum to a closed system cup on a specific area of skin. SUBJECT AND SETTING: A 55-year-old, previously healthy man presented at our emergency department (ED) due to tingling and a painful sensation on his back after receiving cupping therapy while on his private airplane. Physical examination of the patient's back revealed multiple blisters within circular marks of differing sizes and varying shades of redness, petechiae, and ecchymosis.
